People catch the virus from other people who have the virus. Current findings suggest that the disease can spread from person to person via small droplets from the nose or mouth which spread when a person with the virus coughs or exhales.
These droplets generally land on surfaces which other people touch and contaminate their hands, they then introduce the virus to their body via touching their eyes, nose or mouth. In some case people may also directly breathe in the droplets which are expelled when a person near them is coughing.
There is ongoing research in this area being carried out to better understand the spread of the virus.
